Allah's Mercy

بِسۡمِ اللهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡمِ ۝
Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Principle of Divine Intent: Beginning every action with the Creator's Name.

The Insight

This verse, the Basmalah, reminds us that success in any endeavor (work, study, conversations) only comes through seeking divine assistance and blessing. By starting tasks 'In the Name of God,' we purify our intent, making daily actions acts of worship and acknowledging that all true success flows from His mercy.

قُلۡ يٰعِبَادِىَ الَّذِيۡنَ اَسۡرَفُوۡا عَلٰٓى اَنۡفُسِهِمۡ لَا تَقۡنَطُوۡا مِنۡ رَّحۡمَةِ اللّٰهِ​ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَغۡفِرُ الذُّنُوۡبَ جَمِيۡعًا​ ؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ الۡغَفُوۡرُ الرَّحِيۡمُ‏ ۝
Qul ya AAibadiya allatheenaasrafoo AAala anfusihim la taqnatoo min rahmatiAllahi inna Allaha yaghfiru aththunoobajameeAAan innahu huwa alghafooru arraheem
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves by sinning, do not despair of the mercy of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."

Reflect on the meaning: "Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves by sinning, do not despair of the mercy of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."".

وَاكۡتُبۡ لَـنَا فِىۡ هٰذِهِ الدُّنۡيَا حَسَنَةً وَّفِى الۡاٰخِرَةِ اِنَّا هُدۡنَاۤ اِلَيۡكَ ​ؕ قَالَ عَذَابِىۡۤ اُصِيۡبُ بِهٖ مَنۡ اَشَآءُ​ ۚ وَرَحۡمَتِىۡ وَسِعَتۡ كُلَّ شَىۡءٍ​ ؕ فَسَاَكۡتُبُهَا لِلَّذِيۡنَ يَتَّقُوۡنَ وَيُؤۡتُوۡنَ الزَّكٰوةَ وَالَّذِيۡنَ هُمۡ بِاٰيٰتِنَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ ​ۚ‏ ۝
Waktub lana fee hathihiaddunya hasanatan wafee al-akhiratiinna hudna ilayka qala AAathabee oseebubihi man ashao warahmatee wasiAAat kulla shay-infasaaktubuha lillatheena yattaqoona wayu/toona azzakatawallatheena hum bi-ayatinayu/minoon
And decree for us in this world that which is good and also in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned back to You." Allāh said, "My punishment - I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things." So I will decree it especially for those who fear Me and give zakāh and those who believe in Our verses-

The All-Encompassing Mercy: Musa's comprehensive prayer for the community.

The Insight

Musa supplicated for goodness in this world and the Hereafter, acknowledging God's vast mercy that encompasses all things. **Pray for universal goodness.** Do not limit your prayers to yourself. Ask God to prescribe goodness for you and your community in all matters, acknowledging His supreme compassion.

اَلَّذِيۡنَ يَحۡمِلُوۡنَ الۡعَرۡشَ وَمَنۡ حَوۡلَهٗ يُسَبِّحُوۡنَ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَيُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِهٖ وَيَسۡتَغۡفِرُوۡنَ لِلَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا​ ۚ رَبَّنَا وَسِعۡتَ كُلَّ شَىۡءٍ رَّحۡمَةً وَّعِلۡمًا فَاغۡفِرۡ لِلَّذِيۡنَ تَابُوۡا وَاتَّبَعُوۡا سَبِيۡلَكَ وَقِهِمۡ عَذَابَ الۡجَحِيۡمِ‏ ۝
Allatheena yahmiloona alAAarshawaman hawlahu yusabbihoona bihamdi rabbihimwayu/minoona bihi wayastaghfiroona lillatheena amanoorabbana wasiAAta kulla shay-in rahmatan waAAilmanfaghfir lillatheena taboo wattabaAAoosabeelaka waqihim AAathaba aljaheem
Those ˹angels˺ who carry the Throne and those around it glorify the praises of their Lord, have faith in Him, and seek forgiveness for the believers, ˹praying:˺ “Our Lord! You encompass everything in ˹Your˺ mercy and knowledge. So forgive those who repent and follow Your Way, and protect them from the torment of the Hellfire.

Reflect on the meaning: "Those ˹angels˺ who carry the Throne and those around it glorify the praises of their Lord, have faith in Him, and seek forgiveness for the believers, ˹praying:˺ “Our Lord! You encompass everything in ˹Your˺ mercy and knowledge. So forgive those who repent and follow Your Way, and protect them from the torment of the Hellfire.".

وَاِذَا جَآءَكَ الَّذِيۡنَ يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِاٰيٰتِنَا فَقُلۡ سَلٰمٌ عَلَيۡكُمۡ​ كَتَبَ رَبُّكُمۡ عَلٰى نَفۡسِهِ الرَّحۡمَةَ​ ۙ اَنَّهٗ مَنۡ عَمِلَ مِنۡكُمۡ سُوۡٓءًۢا بِجَهَالَةٍ ثُمَّ تَابَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِهٖ وَاَصۡلَحَۙ فَاَنَّهٗ غَفُوۡرٌ رَّحِيۡمٌ‏  ۝
Wa-itha jaaka allatheenayu/minoona bi-ayatina faqul salamunAAalaykum kataba rabbukum AAala nafsihi arrahmataannahu man AAamila minkum soo-an bijahalatin thumma tabamin baAAdihi waaslaha faannahu ghafoorun raheem
And when those come to you who believe in Our verses, say, "Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy: that any of you who does wrong out of ignorance and then repents after that and corrects himself - indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful."

The Decree of Mercy: God has decreed mercy for Himself and forgives those who err in ignorance.

The Insight

God has decreed mercy for Himself, so He forgives those who commit evil out of ignorance and then sincerely repent. **Trust in God's foundational mercy.** God's mercy is an established, non-negotiable attribute. This assurance should motivate immediate repentance after any mistake.

وَاِلٰهُكُمۡ اِلٰهٌ وَّاحِدٌ  ۚ لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ الرَّحۡمٰنُ الرَّحِيۡمُ‏  ۝
Wa-ilahukum ilahun wahidunla ilaha illa huwa arrahmanuarraheem
And your god is one God. There is no deity worthy of worship except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

The Declaration of Tawhid: God is One and uniquely Merciful.

The Insight

This is a direct, fundamental declaration that God is one, the source of all compassion and mercy. Ground your life in monotheism. Make the unity of the Creator the foundation of your worldview, rejecting all forms of idolatry (money, fame, self-worship) that compete for your ultimate devotion.
