Surah Al-A'raf 7:166
فَلَمَّا عَتَوۡا عَنۡ مَّا نُهُوۡا عَنۡهُ قُلۡنَا لَهُمۡ كُوۡنُوۡا قِرَدَةً خٰسِـٮِٕیْنَ‏ ۝
Falamma AAataw AAan ma nuhooAAanhu qulna lahum koonoo qiradatan khasi-een
So when they were insolent about that which they had been forbidden, We said to them, "Be apes, despised."

Theme of the Ayat

The Punishment of Transformation: God's command to be despised apes.

The Insight

When they persisted in their transgression of the Sabbath, God commanded them to be despised apes. **Fear moral and physical degradation.** Persistent disobedience leads to a spiritual and possibly physical transformation that results in humiliation and eternal disgrace.
