Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:80)

تَرٰى كَثِيۡرًا مِّنۡهُمۡ يَتَوَلَّوۡنَ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡاؕ لَبِئۡسَ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ لَهُمۡ اَنۡفُسُهُمۡ اَنۡ سَخِطَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَفِى الۡعَذَابِ هُمۡ خٰلِدُوۡنَ‏ ۝

Tara katheeran minhum yatawallawnaallatheena kafaroo labi/sa ma qaddamat lahumanfusuhum an sakhita Allahu AAalayhim wafee alAAathabihum khalidoon

You see many of them becoming allies of those who disbelieved i.e., the polytheists. How wretched is that which they have put forth for themselves in that Allāh has become angry with them, and in the punishment they will abide eternally.

The Insight

You see many of them forming close alliances with those who disbelieve, revealing the evil they sent ahead for themselves. **Choose alliances based on principle.** Avoid forming intimate, strategic alliances with those whose core values and mission openly oppose God's law.
