Surah An-Nisa (4:38)

وَالَّذِيۡنَ يُنۡفِقُوۡنَ اَمۡوَالَهُمۡ رِئَآءَ النَّاسِ وَلَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَلَا بِالۡيَوۡمِ الۡاٰخِرِؕ وَمَنۡ يَّكُنِ الشَّيۡطٰنُ لَهٗ قَرِيۡنًا فَسَآءَ قَرِيۡنًا‏ ۝

Wallatheena yunfiqoona amwalahumri-aa annasi wala yu/minoona billahiwala bilyawmi al-akhiri waman yakuni ashshaytanulahu qareenan fasaa qareena

And also those who spend of their wealth to be seen by the people and believe not in Allāh nor in the Last Day. And he to whom Satan is a companion - then evil is he as a companion.

Theme of the Ayat

The Hypocrisy of Giving: Condemnation of those who give to be seen by people.

The Insight

This condemns those who spend their wealth only for show and pride, without genuine belief in God or the Hereafter. **Purify your intent in giving.** All acts of charity and public service must be solely for God's pleasure. Giving for applause or status cancels the spiritual reward and is an act of hypocrisy.
