Surah Al-Baqarah (2:272)

لَيۡسَ عَلَيۡكَ هُدٰٮهُمۡ وَلٰـكِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَهۡدِىۡ مَنۡ يَّشَآءُ ؕ وَمَا تُنۡفِقُوۡا مِنۡ خَيۡرٍ فَلِاَنۡفُسِكُمۡؕ وَمَا تُنۡفِقُوۡنَ اِلَّا ابۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ اللّٰهِؕ وَمَا تُنۡفِقُوۡا مِنۡ خَيۡرٍ يُّوَفَّ اِلَيۡكُمۡ وَاَنۡـتُمۡ لَا تُظۡلَمُوۡنَ‏ ۝

Laysa AAalayka hudahum walakinnaAllaha yahdee man yashao wama tunfiqoo minkhayrin fali-anfusikum wama tunfiqoona illa ibtighaawajhi Allahi wama tunfiqoo min khayrin yuwaffailaykum waantum la tuthlamoon

Not upon you, O Muḥammad, is responsibility for their guidance, but Allāh guides whom He wills. And whatever good you believers spend is for yourselves, and you do not spend except seeking the face i.e., approval of Allāh. And whatever you spend of good - it will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.

Theme of the Ayat

The Universal Reach of Good: Charity benefits the giver, not God.

The Insight

The Prophet is not responsible for the guidance of every individual. Charity benefits only the one who gives it, as God does not need our sustenance. Find purpose in giving. Giving charity is not a favor to the recipient, but a necessity for your own soul's spiritual health and purification. Your reward is guaranteed regardless of the recipient's response.
