Battle in the sacred month is for aggression committed in the sacred month, and for all violations is legal retribution. So whoever has assaulted you, then assault him in the same way that he has assaulted you. And fear Allāh and know that Allāh is with those who fear Him.

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Law of Reciprocity: Defending sacred boundaries equally.

The Insight

A violation of a sacred month or place must be met with equal retaliation, but believers are commanded to maintain the fear of God. Practice proportionate response. Justice requires a balanced reaction. Do not use a transgression against you as an excuse for unrestrained revenge; maintain moral proportionality and fear God even when responding to aggression.
