Surah Al-A'raf 7:148
وَاتَّخَذَ قَوۡمُ مُوۡسٰى مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِهٖ مِنۡ حُلِيِّهِمۡ عِجۡلًا جَسَدًا لَّهٗ خُوَارٌ​ ؕ اَلَمۡ يَرَوۡا اَنَّهٗ لَا يُكَلِّمُهُمۡ وَلَا يَهۡدِيۡهِمۡ سَبِيۡلًا ۘ اِتَّخَذُوۡهُ وَكَانُوۡا ظٰلِمِيۡنَ‏ ۝
Wattakhatha qawmu moosamin baAAdihi min huliyyihim AAijlan jasadan lahu khuwarunalam yaraw annahu la yukallimuhum wala yahdeehimsabeelan ittakhathoohu wakanoo thalimeen
And the people of Moses made, after his departure, from their ornaments a calf - an image having a lowing sound. Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to a way? They took it for worship, and they were wrongdoers.

The Sin of the Calf: The Children of Israel fabricate an idol in Musa's absence.

The Insight

In Musa's absence, the Children of Israel fabricated a calf, a physical idol that could not speak, and began to worship it. **Guard against spiritual regression.** The sudden absence of a spiritual guide can lead to an immediate return to past moral errors and idol worship.
