Surah Al-A'raf 7:12
​قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ اَلَّا تَسۡجُدَ اِذۡ اَمَرۡتُكَ​ ؕ قَالَ اَنَا خَيۡرٌ مِّنۡهُ​ ۚ خَلَقۡتَنِىۡ مِنۡ نَّارٍ وَّخَلَقۡتَهٗ مِنۡ طِيۡنٍ‏ ۝
Qala ma manaAAaka allatasjuda ith amartuka qala ana khayrun minhukhalaqtanee min narin wakhalaqtahu min teen
Allāh said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" Satan said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay i.e., earth."

Theme of the Ayat

Iblis's Arrogance: Refusing to obey the command due to false pride in origin.

The Insight

Iblis (Satan) refused to prostrate, claiming superiority because he was created from fire, while Adam was created from clay. **Guard against destructive pride.** Do not let external advantages (wealth, race, origin, intellect) lead you to look down on others. Arrogance is the first sin and the root of all spiritual failure.
