And to those who are Jews We prohibited every animal of uncloven hoof; and of the cattle and the sheep We prohibited to them their fat, except what adheres to their backs or the entrails or what is joined with bone. By that We repaid them for their transgression. And indeed, We are truthful.

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Historical Punishment: Specific dietary restrictions imposed on the Jews for their transgression.

The Insight

Specific dietary restrictions (e.g., forbidding fat from cattle and sheep) were imposed upon the Jews as a consequence of their historical injustice. **Learn from historical consequence.** Recognize that certain laws can be punitive, a consequence of preceding moral failures. God's justice is perfect.
