Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:62)

آيات AYAT.ONE

وَتَرٰى كَثِيۡرًا مِّنۡهُمۡ يُسَارِعُوۡنَ فِى الۡاِثۡمِ وَالۡعُدۡوَانِ وَاَكۡلِهِمُ السُّحۡتَ ؕ لَبِئۡسَ مَا كَانُوۡا يَعۡمَلُوۡنَ‏ ۝

Watara katheeran minhum yusariAAoonafee al-ithmi walAAudwani waaklihimu assuhtalabi/sa ma kanoo yaAAmaloon

And you see many of them hastening into sin and aggression and the devouring of what is unlawful. How wretched is what they have been doing.

Theme of the Ayat

The Sin of Financial Corruption: Encouraging and consuming illegal earnings (Suht).

The Insight

You will see many among them rushing into sin, transgression, and consuming illegal earnings (*Suht*). Their actions are severely condemned. **Reject financial expediency.** Do not engage in or tolerate illegal financial dealings (bribery, fraud). Consuming unlawful wealth is a foundational corruption that invites divine anger.
