Surah An-Nisa (4:22)

وَلَا تَنۡكِحُوۡا مَا نَكَحَ اٰبَآؤُكُمۡ مِّنَ النِّسَآءِ اِلَّا مَا قَدۡ سَلَفَ ؕ اِنَّهٗ كَانَ فَاحِشَةً وَّمَقۡتًا ؕ وَسَآءَ سَبِيۡلًا‏ ۝

Wala tankihoo ma nakahaabaokum mina annisa-i illa maqad salafa innahu kana fahishatan wamaqtan wasaasabeela

And do not marry those women whom your fathers married, except what has already occurred. Indeed, it was an immorality and hateful to Allāh and was evil as a way.

Believers are prohibited from marrying the wives of their fathers (stepmothers), as this was considered a shameful, previous practice. **Uphold family sanctity.** Respect the sanctity of familial relationships. Rejecting past immoral practices strengthens the ethical purity of the family unit. |
