Surah An-Nisa (4:147)

مَا يَفۡعَلُ اللّٰهُ بِعَذَابِكُمۡ اِنۡ شَكَرۡتُمۡ وَاٰمَنۡتُمۡ ؕ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ شَاكِرًا عَلِيۡمًا‏ ۝

Ma yafAAalu Allahu biAAathabikumin shakartum waamantum wakana Allahu shakiranAAaleema

What would Allāh do with i.e., gain from your punishment if you are grateful and believe? And ever is Allāh Appreciative and Knowing.

Theme of the Ayat

The Divine Needlessness: God does not benefit from punishing you.

The Insight

God gains nothing from punishing you if you are grateful and believe. God is thankful and knowing. **Motivate action through gratitude.** God's only requirement is gratitude and belief. Recognizing His needlessness should motivate joyful worship.
