And mention, O Muḥammad, when Allāh took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, saying, "You must make it clear i.e., explain it to the people and not conceal it." But they threw it away behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. And wretched is that which they purchased.

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Covenant of Knowledge: The duty of scholars to share and not conceal truth.

The Insight

God took a covenant from the people of the Scripture to clearly explain the book and never conceal its contents. Uphold intellectual responsibility. If you possess knowledge (religious, scientific, or ethical), you are morally obligated to share it openly and honestly, avoiding suppression for personal gain.
