On the Day some faces will turn white and some faces will turn black. As for those whose faces turn black, to them it will be said, "Did you disbelieve i.e., reject faith after your belief? Then taste the punishment for what you used to reject."

Theme of the Ayat

The Day of Judgment's Contrast: Faces brightened and faces darkened by deeds.

The Insight

On the Day of Judgment, some faces will be brightened (the righteous), and others will be darkened (those who disbelieved after faith). Let your actions define your final appearance. Your moral conduct today is sculpting your face for the Day of Reckoning. Strive for internal purity that reflects outward radiance.
