And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We have believed"; but when they are alone with one another, they say, "Do you talk to them about what Allāh has revealed to you so they can argue with you about it before your Lord?" Then will you not reason?

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Double Betrayal: Hiding known truth from outsiders for political gain.

The Insight

When they meet the believers, some of them admit that the Qur'an confirms the Prophet Muhammad, as foretold in their Scriptures. However, when they are alone, they condemn each other for revealing this truth to the Muslims, knowing it gives the Muslims evidence against them on Judgment Day. Never prioritize political or tribal loyalty over universal truth. Suppressing known facts about faith for short-term gain is a profound betrayal.
