AYAT.ONE
AfatatmaAAoona an yu/minoo lakumwaqad kana fareequn minhum yasmaAAoona kalama Allahithumma yuharrifoonahu min baAAdi ma AAaqaloohuwahum yaAAlamoon
Do you covet the hope, O believers, that they would believe for you while a party of them used to hear the words of Allāh and then distort it i.e., the Torah after they had understood it while they were knowing?

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Futility of Warning: Why the believers should despair of their conversion.

The Insight

The believers are asked if they still hope the Children of Israel will adopt faith, despite a history of scholars hearing God's word (the Torah) and then deliberately distorting it. Exercise spiritual discernment. Do not be naive about the intentions of those who reject truth. Recognizing that some people consciously choose corruption protects your spiritual energy from being wasted on fruitless efforts.
