They say, "Be Jews or Christians so you will be guided." Say, "Rather, we follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth, and he was not of the polytheists."

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Necessity of Hanifiyyah: Following the pure, original path of Abraham.

The Insight

The Jews and Christians insisted that the believers follow their path to be rightly guided. The response is to follow the path of Ibrahim, the pure monotheist (*Hanif*), who was not a polytheist. Seek the universal truth. Do not confuse cultural tradition or sectarian label with the pure, unadulterated monotheism that defines true faith.
