Surah Al-A'raf 7:134
وَلَـمَّا وَقَعَ عَلَيۡهِمُ الرِّجۡزُ قَالُوۡا يٰمُوۡسَى ادۡعُ لَـنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِنۡدَكَ​ۚ لَٮِٕنۡ كَشَفۡتَ عَنَّا الرِّجۡزَ لَـنُؤۡمِنَنَّ لَكَ وَلَـنُرۡسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِىۡۤ اِسۡرَآءِيۡلَ​ۚ‏ ۝
Walamma waqaAAa AAalayhimu arrijzuqaloo ya moosa odAAu lana rabbaka bimaAAahida AAindaka la-in kashafta AAanna arrijzalanu/minanna laka walanursilanna maAAaka banee isra-eel
And when the punishment descended upon them, they said, "O Moses, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. If you can remove the punishment from us, we will surely believe you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel."

Theme of the Ayat

The Hypocritical Plea: Pharaoh's people only beg Musa during moments of severe pain.

The Insight

During the plagues, Pharaoh's people rushed to Musa, begging him to supplicate to God to remove the pain, promising belief and release. **Beware of temporary repentance.** Repentance born only out of intense fear or self-interest is often shallow and insincere.
