Surah Al-An'am 6:40
قُلۡ اَرَءَيۡتَكُمۡ اِنۡ اَتٰٮكُمۡ عَذَابُ اللّٰهِ اَوۡ اَ تَتۡكُمُ السَّاعَةُ اَغَيۡرَ اللّٰهِ تَدۡعُوۡنَ​ۚ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ صٰدِقِيۡنَ‏ ۝
Qul araaytakum in atakum AAathabuAllahi aw atatkumu assaAAatu aghayra AllahitadAAoona in kuntum sadiqeen
Say, "Have you considered: if there came to you the punishment of Allāh or there came to you the Hour - is it other than Allāh you would invoke, if you should be truthful?"

Theme of the Ayat

The Reckoning of Distress: Questioning their reliance on false partners during affliction.

The Insight

The Prophet is commanded to ask them who they would call upon if sudden affliction came to them—God or their partners. **Test your reliance in crisis.** The true measure of your monotheism is whom you call upon when all worldly resources fail. Adversity exposes false loyalties.
