Remember when you fled and climbed the mountain without looking aside at anyone while the Messenger was calling you from behind. So Allāh repaid you with distress upon distress so you would not grieve for that which had escaped you of victory and spoils of war or for that which had befallen you of injury and death. And Allāh is fully Aware of what you do.

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Trial of Flight: The collective panic and God's eventual forgiveness.

The Insight

The verse recalls the moment of panic and flight at Uhud, where the believers ignored the Messenger's call, yet God forgave them out of His boundless mercy. Accept and learn from human error. Even in moments of collective failure, God's mercy is available. The key is to turn back, acknowledge the error, and learn the bitter lesson of disobedience.
