AYAT.ONE
Wa-ith akhathna meethaqakumwarafaAAna fawqakumu attoora khuthooma ataynakum biquwwatin wathkurooma feehi laAAallakum tattaqoon
And recall when We took your covenant, O Children of Israel, to abide by the Torah and We raised over you the mount, saying, "Take what We have given you with determination and remember what is in it that perhaps you may become righteous."

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Covenant Under Duress: Taking the promise under the threat of the mountain.

The Insight

God lifted Mount Sinai over them to make them take the covenant seriously. Recognize the solemnity of commitment. When making a spiritual vow or covenant, treat it with the utmost gravity. Sometimes, external pressure or fear is necessary to force us into realizing the serious nature of our promises.
