And recall when We made an appointment with Moses for forty nights. Then you took for worship the calf after him i.e., his departure, while you were wrongdoers.

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Danger of Distraction: Prioritizing temporary obedience over true devotion.

The Insight

This reminds them how they abandoned the prophet Musa (Moses) after only forty nights to worship the golden calf. Maintain focus during spiritual tests. When you commit to a major act of devotion (like an intense spiritual retreat or project), beware of minor distractions and temporary temptations that can derail your entire purpose and commitment.
