And when it is said to him, "Fear Allāh," pride in the sin takes hold of him. Sufficient for him is Hellfire, and how wretched is the resting place.

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Pride of Sin: Refusing correction due to arrogant self-esteem.

The Insight

When told to fear God, the hypocrite's arrogance drives him further into sin. His final destination is Hell. Check your immediate reaction to criticism. If correction or advice on faith makes you angry or defensive, it is a sign of dangerous arrogance. Humility is essential for repentance and moral growth.
