يَسۡـــَٔلُوۡنَكَ عَنِ الۡاَهِلَّةِ ​ؕ قُلۡ هِىَ مَوَاقِيۡتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَالۡحَجِّ ؕ وَلَيۡسَ الۡبِرُّ بِاَنۡ تَاۡتُوا الۡبُيُوۡتَ مِنۡ ظُهُوۡرِهَا وَلٰـكِنَّ الۡبِرَّ مَنِ اتَّقٰى​ۚ وَاۡتُوا الۡبُيُوۡتَ مِنۡ اَبۡوَابِهَا وَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ لَعَلَّکُمۡ تُفۡلِحُوۡنَ‏‏‏ ۝
Yas-aloonaka AAani al-ahillati qul hiya mawaqeetulinnasi walhajji walaysa albirrubi-an ta/too albuyoota min thuhooriha walakinnaalbirra mani ittaqa wa/too albuyoota min abwabihawattaqoo Allaha laAAallakum tuflihoon
They ask you, O Muḥammad, about the crescent moons. Say, "They are measurements of time for the people and for ḥajj pilgrimage." And it is not righteousness to enter houses from the back, but righteousness is in one who fears Allāh. And enter houses from their doors. And fear Allāh that you may succeed.

The Purpose of Natural Cycles: Using the moon to measure time and pilgrimage.

The Insight

The new moons are signs to measure time for people and for the Pilgrimage (*Hajj*). Use time purposefully. Recognize that natural cycles are signs intended to help you structure your worship and social duties. Don't waste time; use the clarity of the lunar calendar for planning spiritual commitments.
