And when a messenger from Allāh came to them confirming that which was with them, a party of those who had been given the Scripture threw the Scripture of Allāh i.e., the Torah behind their backs as if they did not know what it contained.

Tadabbur (Reflection)

Theme of the Ayat

The Rejection of the New: Discarding known truth for personal bias.

The Insight

They rejected the Qur'an, the book that confirmed the truth they possessed, acting as if they didn't know the truth existed. Do not ignore confirming truth. When a new source of knowledge (a speaker, a book, a spiritual insight) affirms the deepest truths you already hold, accept it, even if it requires abandoning old loyalties.
